Why Did You Want to Become a Dentist?

Doctor Collins and his wife with their two small children

Dr. Mark has spent nearly two decades in dentistry and still finds the most rewarding part of his work in helping patients through surgical procedures in a way that exceeds their expectations. With a strong interest in working with his hands and problem-solving, dentistry felt like a natural fit from an early age. In fact, his journey started when he was just five years old, after spending time in dental and orthodontic chairs and becoming fascinated with the instruments and process behind the scenes.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Mark attended Claremont McKenna College in California before earning his dental degree from Louisiana State University. Over the course of his career, he has built advanced clinical experience, including becoming a Level 3 mobile dental anesthesia provider with a high-risk patient permit and earning Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry. With 17 years in the dental field and more than a decade serving patients at his current practice, he is deeply committed to delivering safe, comfortable, and high-quality surgical care.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Originally from Dallas, Dr. Mark is married to his wife, Katie, who is a hygienist and former surgical assistant. Together they have a busy and active household with two young daughters and teenage twin sons. Much of his free time is spent supporting his kids’ activities, from piano to ice hockey, or traveling with family to Port Aransas. He also enjoys reading, cheering on the Dallas Stars, and playing guitar — something many people are surprised to learn. For him, music is both a creative outlet and a way to stay grounded, and there’s a good chance you’d hear country or worship music playing if you walked through his home.
